Minutes of the event

 

The meeting was opened by Ioan Mircea Pascu , Vice-President of the European Parliament and chaired by Karl von Wogau, Secretary General of the Kangaroo Group. Speakers were Maros Sefcovic, Vice-President of the European Commission and Karim Michel Sabbagh, CEO of SES, Luxembourg. Statements by Bogdan Andrzej Zdrojewski, MEP, EPP/Poland, Member of the Subcommittee on Security and Defence and Rapporteur, Marian-Jean Marinescu, EPP Romania, Member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism and Doru-Claudian Frunzulica, S&D.

 

The importance and the potential of space capabilities for Intelligence, Maritime Security, Border Control and Disaster Relief were discussed. Existing capabilities concerning telecommunication, navigation and observation have not been fully available for missions in the context of the European Security and Defence Policy. Participants also discussed the prerequisites for the autonomous access to space and for enhancing the potential of the Eurocorps.
